  • Forrest Sunshine

    Forrest_Sunshine

    Forrest Sunshine 16x20 - $195.00
This was a 4 step painting utilizing black, white and grey gesso’s, allowing each color to dry thoroughly, before the oils were applied. It was fun to combine both landscape and abstract into the same painting.

  • Falls in the Glen

    Falls_in_the_Glen

    Falls in the Glenn 16x20 - $395.00
This is the fifth, and last for awhile, in the waterfall series. Unfortunately the picture does not capture the subtle greens in the background of the painting nor the thickness and dimension the oils provide. I am actually pleased with this one as I was able to capture the essence of the picture I used for this painting. I am pleased because we goofy painters are really pleased with our own works.

  • Ocean Sunrise

    Ocean_Sunrise_11-06-11.jpg

    Ocean Sunrise 18x24 – SOLD
This is one of my favorites. One of the best times to be in Florida is early in the morning at sunrise. The sky is beautiful and the beach is quite. I used black gesso for the beach. The beach is still dark as the sun has yet to shine on it or warm the sand. That is when it is most pleasant.

  • Shades_of_Grey.jpg

    Shades_of_Grey.jpg

Shades of Grey 16x20 – SOLD
I really had fun with this one. Except for the bushes, the tree limbs on the tree in the foreground and the reflections on the frozen lake, everything else was done with just a palette knife, even the pine trees. Also, I used only black and white paint.

  • Secluded Forest

    Secluded_Forest.jpg

    Secluded Forest 18x24 – SOLD
I utilized a black canvas for this one. Originally I had planned for this to be hung with Bubbling Brook as a pair; however, this one sold first. They both are hung at good homes which makes me very happy.

  • Winter_Stream

    Winter_Stream

    Winter Stream 16x 20 - $195.00
As you must know by now, I love painting winter scenes. This one is my third in a row. I think it is because it is the end of January and we have not had any snowfall yet this year. For those who have a great imagination and can think out-of-the-box, can you see the tiny polar bears in the stream? I have challenged my friends and none of them can see the polar bears. I hope you can. Also, there is a woodpecker hole in the middle tree.

  • Cactus at Sunset

    Cactus_at_Sunset.jpg

    Cactus at Sunset 16x20
... Color enhanced by Nick Adams Photography – SOLD This is my only western landscape, so far. The picture here is not a good representation of the actual painting. It is much too bright. When I use a black canvas, my cheap, little digital camera does not capture the colors correctly; so, I asked my good friend, Nick Adams, of Nick Adams Photography in Sanibel Island, FL. (www.nickadamsphotography.com) to attempt to color enhance it for me. Nick did this without ever seeing the painting, just my digital picture. This is the best he could do. Thanks Nick.

  • Blue Moon

    Blue_Moon

    Blue Moon 16x20 – SOLD
There really is a moon. It’s behind a palm frond. I worked for a long time creating the perfect “blue” moon. I was really proud of it. Then I became totally focused on painting the perfect palm fronds. When I stepped back to view the painting, I couldn’t believe I had painted over my perfect “blue” moon. At least I know it is there.

  • Autumn Splendor

    Autumn_Splendor

    Autumn Splendor 16x20 – SOLD
This was painted for a friend to remind him of a motorcycle trip we took in the fall of 2011 to the Smokey Mountains.

  • Babbling Mountain Brook

    Babbling_Mountain_Brook

    Babbling Mountain Brook 16x20 - $95.00
This was my first attempt at a waterfall. I still find these the most difficult to paint.

  • Spectacular Waterfalls

    Spectacular_Waterfalls

    Spectacular Waterfalls 18x24 - $295.00
This is the second in the waterfalls series. What I liked about painting this was, in addition to the waterfalls being the focal point, the secondary focal point of the mountain in the background. By using a little imagination, well maybe a lot of imagination, I think the mist at the foot of the mountain could be caused by a large waterfall.

  • Waterfall Wonder

    Waterfall_Wonder

    Waterfall Wonder 16x20 - $195.00
I wanted to do a series of waterfalls and this is the first of a Bob Ross inspired painting. I was quite pleased with the effect of the waterfall and mist. I utilized a black canvas and I am still amazed at the effects that can be achieved when using this type of canvas. I learned from this one all the mistakes I made with “Babbling Mountain Brook.”

  • Black and Red.jpg

    Black_and_Red.jpg

    Just Black & Red 16x20 - $95.00
I was just experimenting and trying to do something different. This actually looks good when hung as a group with the abstract pair of paintings, Just Stripes.

  • Bubbling Brook

    Bubbling_Brook

    Bubbling Brook 18x24 – SOLD
This was done on a black canvas. I actually did this as a pair to be hung with “Secluded Forrest”. Unfortunately, when the person came back to purchase both, “Secluded Forrest” was already sold. They are both at a good home; so, I am happy.

  • Shades of Autumn

    Shades_of_Autumn

    Shades of Autumn 16x20 - $195.00
With this fourth in the waterfall series, I tried something very different. I used four mediums, acrylic, gesso, and liquid clear as a base for the painting. This was actually a four day project. I utilized the acrylics to provide a pastel color to attempt to capture some autumn colors then the gesso to show the dark shadows in the stream and to provide background for the trees. The liquid clear is to insure the transparent colors remain true and to help when applying them.

  • Waterfall_in_the_Woods

    Waterfall_in_the_Woods

    Waterfall in the Woods 18x24 - $295.00
I took a lot of artistic liberties with this one; i.e., white, purple and green trees. I was going more for color and composition. I just wanted something different. I like it because there is a lot of texture on the canvas. Of course the picture doesn’t portray the true colors nor brush strokes.

  • By the Sea

    By_the_Sea

    By the Sea 18x24 - $295.00
Here I was experimenting with a half black and a half white canvas. The scene is Bob Ross’ imagination not mine. I tried to capture the “eye” of the wave along with wet sand.

  • Campfire

    Campfire.jpg

    Campfire 16x20 - $195.00
This was a fun painting done on a black canvas. My cheap, little digital camera just does not take good pictures when it is a dark painting. This one must be seen to be appreciated. In the actual painting you can see the flames in the campfire and the cowboy resting against the tree is discernable. All the trees and bushes are muted and the glow of the campfire can be seen dancing on the leaves.

  • Cliffside

    Cliffside.jpg

    Cliffside 18x24 - $295.00
This is another Bob Ross inspiration. I just like doing seascapes because of my love for the sea and SCUBA diving. This one reminds me of the cliffs in San Diego and the cove in La Jolla cove in California. I used a black canvas for the sea and cliff and white for the sky.

  • Cosmos

    Cosmos.jpg

    Cosmos 8x8 $50.00 All Three - $100.00 Total
I was asked to do something abstract using blue, brown and green. After searching the internet about abstract paintings to get some ideas, this is the outcome. This is one of my few attempts at using acrylics (or painting abstracts for that matter). My thought was to capture the night sky through the eyes of the Hubble Telescope. I thought I did a great job, but the person who asked me to paint an abstract for him, utilizing these specific colors, obviously did not, as they are still for sale.

  • Cosmos Blue

    Cosmos_Blue.jpg

    Cosmos Blue 8x8 $50.00 All Three - $100.00 Total
I was asked to do something abstract using blue, brown and green. After searching the internet about abstract paintings to get some ideas, this is the outcome. • Cosmos Brown

    Cosmos_Brown.jpg

    Cosmos Brown 8x8 $50.00 All Three - $100.00 Total
I was asked to do something abstract using blue, brown and green. After searching the internet about abstract paintings to get some ideas, this is the outcome. • Covered Bridge

    Covered_Bridge.jpg

    Covered Bridge 18x24 - $195.00
This is just a simple painting of a covered bridge. When I travel to Indianapolis, I always pass a covered bridge. This gave me the idea, after, of course, seeing how Bob Ross does covered bridges.

  • Distant Hills

    Distant_Hills.jpg

    Distant Hills 16x20 – SOLD
This is one of my early paintings inspired by Bob Ross. My objective was more for the colors and techniques of “wet-on-wet”.

  • Foot of the Mountain

    Foot_of_the_Mountain.jpg

Foot of the Mountain 11x14 – SOLD
This was my first attempt utilizing a black canvas. As usual, my cheap, little digital camera does not capture the true colors. The colors are quite vibrant.

  • Faux Wood Mountain

    Faux_Wood_Mountain.jpg

    Faux Wood Mountain 8x8 - $95.00
This has been one of my most enjoyable paintings, primarily because of the outcome. The objective was to make the canvas look like wood. Utilizing one of Bob Ross’ techniques with liquid clear and thinner, the canvas actually looks like wood. This is one of my best, if I should say so myself.

  • Hunters Haven

    Hunters_Haven.jpg

    Hunters Haven 16x20 – SOLD
This reminds me of a peaceful stroll through the woods. It reminds me of the farm that adjoins our property and the many walks I take to try and stay in shape. I am not sure I am too successful.

  • In the Mist of Winter

    In_the_Mist_of_Winter_01-2012.jpg

In the Mist of Winter 16x20 - $195.00
I find there is nothing more beautiful than snow and the peacefulness and quite that seems to always be there in the woods after and during a great snowfall. I also enjoy painting barns, pine and birch trees. With Bob Ross’ technique, these can be done by those of us with no talent.

  • Just_Stripes.jpg

    Just_Stripes.jpg

    Just Stripes 8x8 each - Sold as a pair - $75.00
I was just experimenting and trying to do something different. This actually looks good when hung as a group with “Just Black & Red”.

  • Misty Rolling Hills

    Misty_Rolling_Hills.jpg

Misty Rolling Hills 18x24 – SOLD
With inspiration from Bob Ross, this scene reminded me of my walks through the forest in Marmagen, Germany. Barb and I spent 7 days there during our month sojourn to Europe last year. If you know your geography, you will know that I have taken artistic license and added the mountains. The rolling hills and trees are accurate; however, Marmagen is in the Moselle valley and there are only hills…no mountains.

  • Mountain by the Sea

    Mountain_By_the_Sea_12-2011.jpg

    Mountain by the Sea 18x24 - $295.00
As most of my paintings are inspired by Bob Ross, this one is no exception. What I like about this painting is the 2 focal points: the mountain and the double crashing wave. The mountain reminds me of the Pitons on St. Lucia, obviously without the snow, and the double crashing wave was just fun to do.

  • Amy's Mountain

    Mountain_Range_1st_Painting.jpg

    Amy's Mountain – My 1st one 8x8 Not Available
This is the one that got me started. This is a view of the Alps along a road to King Ludwig II’s Linderhof Palace in southern Bavaria. I gave this painting to my daughter-in-law, Amy, (as she was the one who really encouraged me to start painting) as a gift for Christmas 2010. Who knew I had the ability to paint, I surly didn’t.

  • Night Light

    Night_Light.jpg

    Night Light 18x24 – SOLD
Another Bob Ross inspired painting. I used a black canvas then used 4 different base colors in the 4 quarters of the canvas to achieve the various colors. This was a bit different and fun to do. I was even surprised at the completed work. Bob Ross’s technique proves anybody can paint.

  • Oval Mountain

    Oval_Mountain.jpg

    Oval Mountain 16x20 – SOLD
This is my first oval after many attempts at using the right contact paper to make the oval. As you know by now, I really like winter scenes. I especially like the blue spruces in this one. A black frame was used on this by the buyer and it really makes the blues sparkle.

  • Pastel Seascape

    Pastel_Seascape.jpg

    Pastel Seascape 18x24 - $295.00
Another one of my favorites. The pastel colors and a Florida seascape make me feel good and reminds me of the good times we have had when SCUBA diving in the Florida Keys. I know they are not to everyone’s taste, but I enjoy painting ovals.

  • Peaceful Waters

    Peaceful_Waters.jpg

    Peaceful Waters 16x20 - $195.00
I gave up painting for about 6 months and this was my first after the layoff. It made me realize how much I really enjoying painting and missed not doing it. While driving to Neuschwanstein Castel in Germany, this is the first view of the lake and mountain that Barb and I saw that is so prominent when you are at the Castel. It is what Ludwig II would see every day.

  • Reflections

    Reflections.jpg

    Reflections 12x12 – SOLD
This was an early painting when I was trying to learn Bob Ross’ techniques. I was just experimenting on how to do reflections in the water.

  • Seahorse

    Seahorse.jpg

    Seahorse 8x10 – SOLD
This was my first attempt at an abstract and one of just a few that I have attempted. As most abstracts are, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you must have a great imagination and the ability to think out-of-the-box. After many hours underwater SCUBA diving, to my eye, and obvious imagination, this is a seahorse, sea cumber and crab. It may help to squint to see what I see, or have a warped mind.

  • Seascape with Lighthouse

    Seascape_with_Lighthouse.jpg

Seascape with Lighthouse 18x24 – SOLD
Inspired by Bob Ross, this was my first seascape. It reminds me of our vacation to Maine in the summer of 1975. The locals said it was a hot summer and the water was warm. They sure lie in Maine! I have been SCUBA diving under the ice but I have never felt so much pain and true cold as when my son, Michael, and I ran into the water. We couldn’t get out fast enough. It was like being stung by a thousand bees. By the way, we haven’t been back to Maine. .

  • Solomon Islands Village

    Solomon_Islands_Village.jpg

Solomon Islands Village 10x12 – SOLD
Painted from photo taken by my daughter-in-law, Amy, of a village we visited while SCUBA diving in the Solomon Islands in 2008. The Solomon Islands are truly third world. What amazed me the most was how happy the children were, even though they had no material passions. It was obvious to us what they did have…they were loved…by the whole village.

  • Sunset

    Sunset.jpg

    Sunset 11x14 – Not Available
My daughter-in-law, Lisa, gave me a picture and asked that I paint a peaceful ocean view. I am not sure the ocean is as peaceful as she wanted, as there are a few more white caps than were in the actual picture she gave me. As good ol’ Bob Ross says, “There are no mistakes, just happy accidents.”

  • Surfs Up

    Surfs_Up.jpg

    Surf's Up 18x24 - $295.00
One of my first seascapes where I have tried to capture the “eye of the wave.” This one is a Bob Ross inspired seascape, as are almost all of my paintings. Without utilizing Bob Ross’ technique, all of my paintings would be no more than a blob of mud on a canvas.

  • The Dock

    The_Dock.jpg

    The Dock 18x24 -- $195.00
This was my first attempt to paint with the predominant object being other than landscape, seascape, etc. I know, proportionately, the dock is not quite correct; but, remember, as Bob Ross says, “it’s my world and I can put anything in it. There are no mistakes, just happy accidents.” I hope to do more like this one. Maybe capture some of our memories from when we were in Venice a few years ago.

  • The Old Mill

    The_Old_Mill

    The Old Mill 18x24 - $295.00
Even though this is another Bob Ross inspired painting, this water wheel and mill reminds me of those we have seen on a few of our motorcycle trips. I am still in awe of the mastery the carpenters had in building these old structures.

  • Winter at the Farm

    Winter_at_the_Farm.jpg

    Winter at the Farm 16x20 - $195.00
This reminds me of the cow farm that was just up the street from us when I was growing up. I used to look forward to the afternoons when we would have to go out in the pastures and drive the cows home. Old Mr. Trendkamp would yell at us if we let the cows run because their utters would bounce and they would lose milk. Boy oh boy, those were the days. .

  • Winter Hideaway

    Winter_Hideaway.jpg

    Winter Hideaway 16x20 – SOLD
This is just a peaceful, little abandoned cabin in the woods inspired by Bob Ross. If I haven’t mentioned before, I really like winter scenes. They are just fun to do.

  • Winter Night

    Winter_Night.jpg

    Winter Night 16x20 - $95.00
I was going more for the colors than the actual winter scene here. Things got a little out of proportion but, “it’s my world and I don’t make mistakes, just happy accidents.”

About Me

Michael T Dunn

Oil painting is my passion.

Mike Dunn retired January 1, 2010 after forty-one years in the Information Technology industry specializing in Network Communications and Interactive Video Conferencing for NCR, Intermedia Communications and AT&T.

El Grande Artisto

MikeDunn

Being an avid SCUBA diver (visit www.waterdogs.us) and motorcycle enthusiast, Mike needed something to keep him busy in the winter months. After returning from a month long sojourn to Europe with his wife, Barb, in October 2010, Mike was encouraged by his family to paint some of the beautiful sights they had seen. (This was done to keep him out of their hair and keep him from getting bored.)

Mike’s first painting was a view of the Alps along a road to King Ludwig II’s Linderhof Palace in southern Bavaria. Mike gave this painting to his daughter-in-law, Amy, (as she was the one who really encouraged Mike to start painting) as a gift for Christmas 2010. Who knew Mike had the ability to paint, he surly didn’t; however, this started a passion in Mike to continue.

Mike’s nom de plume, “El Grande Artisto” was coined by Mike’s son-in- law. Mike was always known in the family as “Big Mike”, his son Michael as “Little Mike” and his son-in-law Mike as “Just Mike”. “Just Mike” started calling “Big Mike” “El Grande Muchacho” due to Mike’s rotund size of 284lbs. After Mike had a full gastric bypass in 2005 with a subsequent loss of 122 lbs., and Mike’s new painting career, “Just Mike” coined a new nom de plume; hence, El Grande Artisto.

Mike uses oils, almost, exclusively in all his paintings. Mike’s only training has been a three hour instructional video by Bob Ross. Bob Ross’ “wet-on- wet” technique has taught Mike that anybody can paint, because it’s Mike’s world and this is the way he sees it. As Bob Ross says, “Mike never makes a mistake, just happy accidents.”
